And just like that another season is coming to an end so a chance to look back and reflect at what we have done.
It has been widely said that as a club - where others have struggled with player retention - we have actually grown our membership during the pandemic and this shows when - although the senior section has had a major blight of injuries we have still been able to put out 3 teams. A fantastic achievement.
The league being split into extra divisions to cut down on the travelling has not been a great success - fewer games has meant needing to find more friendlies - unfortunately the motivation to play in those games wasn't always there meaning we have struggled at times - playing encourages playing and the more you pull on the boots the more you want to. From the meeting last month it looks as though we will be back to the standard 3 leagues leading to more confirmed fixtures which will hopefully help.
As a squad though - we remain unbeaten in the league with only the draw against old boys costing us points - Although again we had 1 replacement and probably should of won with yet another try at the death ruled out for a forward pass which clearly wasn't but them's the breaks and just shows how we need to take our opportunities when they come.
Confirmed as league champions (yes there will be a trophy) we come to our final game v Sunderland - a team much like us who want to play a decent brand of rugby and move the ball around - with pre season and league we are at 1 a piece and be under no illusions they will be coming to try and spoil our party.
We know what to expect and how to try and deal with it - do that right play our game and I am confident we can finish the season on a high.
On a personal note I just want to thank you all for the past 10 years - there have been high's and lows however the highs far outweigh the lows. It hasn't always been easy but we have stuck together as a squad - we have blooded a number of colts and seen them go onto bigger and better things - we have seen players retire and move away but they will always be a part of what we are today and as a squad we are stronger now than ever.
So here we go - 1 last game of the season - let's go out on a high
