Saturday is a big day for the club and we have the chance to kick it all off with the right note.
We have an ex players day, a lot of whom will have played 3rds at some point and in a couple of cases ran the team, they will be keen to see how the 3rds of their day match up to the current crop.
I am fully expecting another big squad to be available with both the 1st and lions also at home there will be high availability, obviously there are only so many allowed in a squad in their leagues meaning some may need to drop down to get some game time, when we throw the colts who have no game into the mix, along with our burgeoning ranks of regulars it will be a headache for me. I also know it can be frustrating for players as everyone wants to play 80 minutes but a league is won by a squad and we need each and every person to play their part. Squad will be added Thursday.
This weeks opposition we know well from previous encounters and know we cannot take the game lightly, currently they sit at 4th place in the table, only 1 point behind ourselves and with 8 wins under their belts. We know they favour the forward game but as always, its down to us to play to our strengths and avoid playing to theirs.
Post game it is Derby day with the 1st team squad facing off against our closest geographical and league rivals Blaydon.
After a great win at their place earlier in the season we know they will be coming to fortress Greenwood for revenge, the AGP is not an advantage like against some teams as they have 1 of their own, so our advantage can be you, the 19th man, helping us get over the line.
Afterwards there will be plenty of chat and beer going on with the old boys plus Scotland v Ireland (Johnny v Johnny) and Italy v Wales
So Saturday is only 1 place to be, get your passes sorted and stick your man card in your wallett, the day is going to be epic and you dont want to miss any part of it
