Billingham are back on home soil this week when they welcome Heath to Greenwood Road.
Heath are currently lying in top position... 6 wins from 6. Its been a funny old start to the season. Some weird results, some shock results. Heaths home victory over York was, lets be honest, one of them. York would have been 'right up there'. What it does show is that Heath have made a statement on the league. A reason to why they are top... They are going to be a tough team to play. This has excitement written all over it!
Who are Heath?
Heath Rugby Club is based Greetland, near Halifax, West Yorkshire. Heath were promoted into tier five (Regional 1 NE) following the league restructuring at the end of the 2021-22 season. This was the club's second promotion in three seasons, after finishing runners-up in two consecutive seasons in Yorkshire 1.
Heath made a notable signing in the summer when they signed former Sale FC fly half, Chris Johnson. A maverick of a player with a great kicking game to boot (pun intended).
Last week Billingham travelled to Driffield with a depleted squad, fielding only 16 players. Injuries, holidays and work commitments all playing a part however we were still able to field 3 senior sides and a colts side on the Sunday. As a fully amateur club we face these issues however as always we pull together. A gritty, determined win against a tough Driffield side encapsulated our values.
We move onto this week. We face a tough, unbeaten side. Billingham will need to be at their very best. Injuries will be reassessed during the week and final tests will need to be done. Nathan Myers is back off-shore and Luke Wilson is away, Again it gives opportunities to others to showcase themselves on the bigger stage.
One thing we do need is YOUR support! Another big crowd will help drive Billingham over the line...
We go again!
