This evening I have caught up with Dan Hanson. A second row who is also capable of slotting in the back row. Although not the biggest he is quick, agile and powerful beyond his size.
1. How old were you when you started playing rugby?
I was in year 7 at school, so about 11
2. What was your first rugby memory?
My first rugby memory was when Wayne Finney came into our school to do some rugby and I loved it
3. Who was your role model and why?
I think my first role model would be Geoff Parling as he is a local lad and represented England. My current role model would have to be Dan Burns. Mans a workhorse
4. Can you remember your first training session with Billingham?
I remember coming down on a freezing cold Wednesday night, in the mud doing 1 on 1 tackling. Didn't have a clue what I was doing
5. What do you eat before a big match?
The night before I like to go to nandos with fellow player jambo, get a sharing platter each. On game day I like to smash in a couple of sausage sarnies
6. Describe your perfect weekend.
Quiet night Friday, big win saturday, followed by a bottle of gin and flares. Then coaching the successful under 13s, whilst feeling fragile
7. What’s been your career highlight?
Either when our colts team won the quarter final of the national cup at home, or when my girlfriend won best dressed female at the rugby Halloween party. Probably the latter
8. What one tip would you give a young person looking to succeed
Tough one. I'd have to say get stuck in and always give it everything you have
9.What’s the next goal in your rugby career?
I'd love to get a first team call up in the future!
Keep training and I'm sure that call up isn't far away!!
