We Need Your Support!!

Well there you go, another season comes to a close but this season has been like no other.

8 months ago we played our first game in National 2 and we went to Rotherham full of excitement, full of nerves but above all, full of pride. It was a glorious sunny day, a day for such a landmark occasion when little old Billingham RUFC were taking on the mighty Rotherham Titans. So whilst it was a David v Goliath match, the outcome was not. As the players came off the field, we all knew we were playing in a new league and we all new we were playing at a new level. So whilst we gave a good account of ourselves and went on to win 4 games out of the first 6, the impact of this level of rugby was starting to tell.

Maybe it was written in the stars that the new boys, the amateur team from the North East were to start and close the season against the Champions elect. If I look at our squad today compared to 8 months ago, we are a full side missing, many with long term injuries. If I look at what could happen today, I am once again filled with excitement, filled with nerves but above all filled with pride.

I know in my heart, this is our level, and we will only improve playing season after season in National rugby, but the level we play next year comes down to todays 20 young men, how we execute and of course, destiny.

Rotherham have come here today to win the league, and whilst I believe in our team, it will be a phenomenal feat to stop that from happening. One point, 4 tries then nothing else matters and we will remain a National league side next year, outside of that we are relying on other results.

So I am hoping for the same sunny weather and whilst a W would always be welcomed, I believe in destiny and I am looking forward to celebrate with Rotherham as they gain promotion and we stay in National 2. It is poised to be a great day so please support your club. I mean where else would you go on a Saturday, Saturday is a rugby day.

So for the last time this season, the last time in our centenary season, let’s hear that green machine roar. Let’s fill the balcony, cheer on our team and create a day to remember.

Our spirit is our strength. #OSIOS
