Billingham Sweep Past Gateshead

27/10/10 Billingham v Gateshead

Billingham Spartans travelled north again this week to Gateshead, where an evenly fought contest began. It was never one way traffic but through continued pressure by the forwards, Billingham made good ground spreading the ball wide at every opportunity. Gateshead defended well but Billingham were able to turn the ball over with great rucking. The relentless pressure allowed Billingham a 19-0 half time score.
Spartans made their changes and a revived Gateshead pilled on the pressure a lack of discipline allowed them a score under the posts.
Spartans again continued to build through every play, a brilliant rolling maul allowed Billingham a further 7 points, followed by a great team try. Full time 31-12. A massive thank you to Gateshead for a great game and fantastic hospitality. Man of the match performance’s from Alexander Young and Isaac Merryfield- Burke.
