First Home Game of the 2015/16 season

Billingham U10s played four competitive matches against old rivals Middlesbrough. Historically, games against Middlesbrough have been close and so it proved to be the case as the first two games ended in a stalemate. Match 1 ended in a 1.1 draw where chances were at a premium. Oliver shrugged off several challenges to score and cancel out Middlesbrough's try in the corner. Match 2 followed a similar pattern to the first and once again, Billingham came from behind to force another draw; Kasiyah finding space to break through Middlesbroughs tough defence and in for the try.

Billingham won the third game where a single try was enough to gain victory. Beau proved to be the hero as he used his blistering pace on the wing and sprinted away to score the try. Both sides were well organised and the tackling was of a high standard throughout.

The final game was more open than the previous three and the players were making good use of the width of the pitch. Billingham ran out comfortable winners and the 3.2 scoreline doesn't show a true reflection of the game. Harley scored the first try, coolly picking up a loose ball to score and the move of the day was from Ollie who weaved through like a slalom skier to score the second try. Leo got the third from another loose ball close to the try line and this was enough to seal victory.

Both sides were well organised but Billingham looked a tad sharper and more confident in the maul and ruck play than the opposition. Both groups showed great teamwork and you can see the whole group of players developing their new technical skills and putting them to good use. Well done everyone!!

Today's Player Awards went to Ollie and Kasiyah.

It's training next week and then the county 7s at Middlesbrough in two weeks time.
