Another big scalp from last years beaten finalists.

3TM v Durham City Thirds
Third Team Cup

A very windy day looked like making open flowing play difficult and place kicking impossible. Expecting a hard game with Durham being runners up in last years cup and them not having a second team game the start was a bonus. After only three minutes a scrum was formed on their twenty. Although our youthful second row of Andy Thompson and Massey is not the biggest unit the power through the front row proved to much as Durham went back. Their number nine picked up at the base and popped a pass straight to Donaldson who had the easy task of sprinting in. The game flowed up and down the field until on the half hour Guz once again broke several tackles, setting the backs away Marcus Sudron injected pace into the line and Simpson accelerated through to take the pass and score from distance. Only eight minutes later Anth Kelsey the destroyer turned provider as he picked up from the scrum and set Donaldson away for his second to bring about half time

Another score after three minutes from the start again saw Guz again breaking tackles with Dunning masterminding the plays flip to the experienced Taylor who drew the opposition defence tacking out two players before passing out of the tackle. Elgie playing really well out of position took the pass at speed and set Brumpton away to jink his way over. Durham were looking jaded as Guz hammered them then Watson took over and just when they thought it could not get worse Hall and Phil Kelsey hammered them back with a superb demonstration of the All Black side step….(Straight over them.) Simpson was replaced by Sanderson who was unlucky when what looked like a slide in try was ruled out for double movement. Then a telling moment in the game when Whiteline Sudron actually passed the ball to someone on his own team inside their twenty. The shock was too much and the manager of the year had to sub himself off to be replaced by Scotty Thompson. Billingham went for more changes bringing on Angus who looked at home hammering the tackles in alongside the bone crunching hits of Surtees in the back row. With a strong breeze helping the visitors it was decided to bring on Sixsmith and McLean to add fresh legs to the back line. Durham were still pressing hard and scored a couple of tries having broken tackles and used the wind well. Deep into injury time our forwards worked their way out our red zone and a breakthrough came with Donaldson getting his hat trick (See Andy Smiths Video) to close out another superb 3TM performance.
Thanks to the supporting players Richie Morrison who ran the touch and was held back in case of injury, Coggy Canham shouted his support throughout, Woody who took on coaching duties, Andy Smith for the photographic evidence, Mrs Coggy for staying in the bar and spending loads on booze and of course the 3TM supporters without who the club cannot survive.
