Players prove they have the spirit of the game at heart

3TM V REDCAR

On a cold windy day eighty Players, Coaches, Managers and Officials along with numerous spectators stood in silence in memory of former club President Jack Taylor who sadly passed away.
Credit to Redcar despite being short of players still travelled to Greenwood despite knowing that they would face the strongest team in the league. Also credit to Kelsey, Thompson, Canham (Coggy) Morrison and Steve Simpson who crossed the line to play for Redcar these players are a credit to the club as were the guys who swopped at half time. The writing was on the wall after only three minutes when Naz came in on the angle to score under the posts with Elgie converting. Five minutes later Taylor showed all his experience with a quick tap penalty and sprint in from distance. The game settled and on sixteen minutes Lee Simpson showed the visiting defence a clean pair of heels but was stopped with forty metres to go. A pass out of the tackle saw the ever supporting Donaldson on his shoulder to take the pass and race round the defenders to score in the corner. Redcar were pressed but a knock on gave them a scrum in their own twenty, The scrum half avoided Jessey going blind but was flattened by the blind side flanker Surtees who was up in a flash and hacked through, following up to score. Billingham kicked through and Elgie and Dixon team tackled the opposing full back who spilled the ball. Massey swooped onto the bouncing ball and galloped over the line to increase the score and bring half time.

The players swopped shirts to let the “travellers” to play for their own team as the second half restarted. Sudron thought he had increased the score but the official had already blown for a Billingham penalty. The mobility of Watson, Kelsey and Shea in the back row was proving to much for the visitors hitting the breakdowns at speed but unfortunately a recurring injury to Connor looks like it may keep him out for a while. Despite the strong wind Gray was dominant in the line as Sudron hit his target time after time to keep the pressure on the visitors. The players were dropping like flies in the cold wind as Naz limped off and both sides were down to fourteen men. The home side pressed hard with the backs orchestrated by Donaldson tearing into the visitors with some silky moves. Good hands saw Steve Simpson get the ball out wide to run in from distance. With almost a carbon copy of the previous try Elgie joined the line to go in at the corner right on full time.

Quote of the day “Good pass Watson” From Watson!
Sorry I refuse to put in a piece about Scott Thompson handing off Whiteline Sudron as one trial per season is enough for anyone.
