Although the temperature dropped the intensity of play from 3TM did not. Still topping the league with a great performance.

Middlesborough Lions V Billingham 3TM
The pitch was still baked hard although the temperature had dropped to a more comfortable level as referee Alan Tickner laid down the way he intended to run the game. Sadly due to late unavailability Boro could not field a full front row and a couple of late cry offs saw unapposed scrums and Coggy Canham donning an opposition shirt. We must however thank them for the effort made not only in their clubhouse but across Europe as The Right Honerable Mr M. Whiteline St.John Sudron used his considerable diplomatic skills to secure the game. After only four minutes Naz looped around the defence to show a clean pair of heels to score in the corner. Young gun Mallam proved how much he had learned from the senior game when seeing open space raced out of defence handed off a Lions forward to get into their half. Just inside he was hit but passed out of the tackle to Elgie who had moved to fly half, spriting clear Ben scored under the posts. Boro pulled back with a well worked converted try after twenty five minutes but on the half hour Naz got his second with a great solo run after a Boro player knocked on straight into his hands. The home side pressed hard and looked like scoring until Massey stole the ball and when we thought he would kick went route one blasting through tackles to make a lot of hard yards. Right on half time the opposition pulled back with another very good try. This game was far from won at half time but Watson, Kelsey and Surtees were starting to overcome a strong Boro back row to dominate the fringes.
Middlesborough Lions 14 V Billingham 3TM 19
Straight from the kick off Anth Kelsey caught the ball made yards and passed out to Elgie who sprinted in for his second. Five minutes later the ball was well won by a battling McGravey feeling frustrated at playing unopposed against his old club and storming into tackles time after time. The ball was recycled quickly once again and spun out to Robbie Brumpton who finished in style. Simpson (the elder) was called into the fray and had to defend hard as the Lions found their second wind attacking hard. Canham picked up at the base of their ruck and ran straight at our defence. I am sure Phil Kelsey had a glint in his eye as “Coggy” headed towards him, only one winner their as Kelsey like his name sake Anth is a big hitter…..Ouch. The Lions pressed hard and looked to have broken the line when Naz wrapped up one of their most dangerous player like a praying mantis …. All arms and legs. Elgie completed his hat trick with a great period of play and a very good hand off to break clear and score. Gray and Morgan dominated the lineout and both put in some good takle breaking drives to cross the gain line and put Boro on the back foot. Woodhouse returning from injury, back at nine and wearing more strapping and neoprene than Wagger and Magrath (Happy Birthday Baz) put together picked up deep in his own twenty breaking a tackle and into open field. Weaving right to their five metre line and faced with three defenders he went to ground. Boro killed the ball illegally and as Boro were reorganising Sudron tapped and went over. Mr. Tickner ruled that it was not through the mark so Whiteline re adjusted tapped and went over again. Sorry Michael it still only counts as one try
The game finished with a try in the dying minutes as Naz broke clear and went in under the posts to complete his hat trick
