Billingham U18s secure hard-fought victory over Redcar
What a performance from the Billingham girls, who battled their way to an excellent 26–20 away victory against Redcar in a fiercely contested encounter.
Redcar got the scoring underway and, with both sides trading tries and conversions, Billingham had to work hard throughout to stay in the contest. The girls showed tremendous character, determination and togetherness, continuing to battle for one another as the game ebbed and flowed.
Billingham’s attacking threat was evident throughout, with tries from Lucy, Amy, Ruby and Lilly contributing to the scoreboard. More importantly, the girls showed that rugby is about far more than individual moments of brilliance. Their work rate, commitment and willingness to keep going for each other were outstanding from the first whistle to the last.
Ultimately, Billingham were the better team on the day, playing the more effective rugby and earning a thoroughly deserved victory against a determined Redcar side.
Hopefully, the girls will take this performance as a real benchmark for what they can achieve. When they put their heads down, trust one another and combine their ability with that level of work ethic, they are a formidable team.
A brilliant team effort, a hard-earned away win and a performance every girl should be incredibly proud of.
