This week the girls got their first taste of National Cup rugby with a home fixture against Rebels, and what a contest it proved to be.
With the team eager to build on last week's league victory, the game was played at a high tempo and with a physical edge throughout. Rebels were strong in contact, and their relentless ball carrying tested the Billingham defence all afternoon. Despite the pressure, Billingham showed great character, grit and determination, moving the ball confidently with quick hands and excellent offloads to exploit gaps in the Rebels defensive line. Some superb individual runs, backed up by outstanding support play, ultimately gave Billingham the edge.
Tries came from McKenna Spowart (2), Summer Kidson (3), Alyx Coward, Tallice Gibson, Neve Davison, Kacey Richards and Brooke Thomas, while Amy Ryan added the conversions to complete an impressive 56-12 victory.
A huge thank you to Rebels for making the trip to Greenwood Road and contributing to an entertaining and competitive game. We wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season.
