With pre season well under way and the first pre season game against GHA Glasgow less than 3 weeks away we thought it would be a great opportunity to catchup with Head Coach Peter Evans to get his thoughts on pre season.

So how's pre season gone so far?
Tough! We are in week 5 now and the lads have really been putting the graft in. I am particularly impressed with the front row boys an area where we have massive competition this year and they all seem to have met the challenge head on. We are in holiday season now so it’s about the lads sticking with it.

What's been the aim of pre season this year?
Not giving away the game! We have a few tweaks from lessons learned last season. There’s an aspect about coaching delivery and how we set up which will impact us in certain conditions.
Mostly it’s about fitness and performing high levels of skill under fatigue. The latter being so important to our style of play.

Has anyone stood out in terms of their fitness levels?
As I said above the front row boys have put in some hard yards so far. It’s hard to pick any stand outs as everyone is really grafting.
Some of backs look real sharp already and there’s a front group pushing each other including Kirby, Luke, Connor Foley amongst others.

We've made some new signings how have they fitted in?
Really well, there’s not been a massive amount of rugby but I can see the lads enjoying themselves and being a part of the group already. I am excited to see them in action more so to see what it brings out in the others competing for the shirt.

We have some testing pre season fixtures up ahead. What's the thought on those games?
It’s going to be real tough, that’s what we want though. In reality we have 5 games lined up so everyone is fighting for come September. I wanted us to be battle hardened and these games will provide us a chance to work on our defence and other areas. We had a fantastic year last time out and it’s going to be challenge to replicate.

As the boys are putting in the hard yards there is still on going work behind the scenes. Find out more at the upcoming AGM!
