2 fantastic wins on the road

Injuries, unavailability and debuts.

The story of finalising the teams on Thursday. You wouldn’t have guessed it come Saturday.

Testament to the countless hours of hard graft over the summer and continued work up until this week by record numbers at training. Two teams short of regulars won extremely tight games at Harrogate.

In persistent rain the first team took on a very strong Harrogate team. Starting very brightly, playing the conditions very well we took a 10-0 lead through a Mathew Kirby Try either side of a Peter Evans penalty and conversation. Harrogate came back strong scoring before half time 10-7.

The second half followed the same pattern lots of kicking for territory and tight contact. Extending the lead to 13-7 with a long penalty. Harrogate again came back to take the lead for the first time on 70 minutes with a try in the corner 14-13.

Billinghams response was quick winning a penalty and under pressure converting to take the lead 16-14, 6 long minutes of short drives to see the game out under huge pressure was completed.

In a similar tight game the lions won again on the road. Controlling the game and defending with their lives, holding on to win 10-7.

Immensely proud, a great day for the senior section as we joined together victorious in a huddle on the main pitch together. A very enjoyable bus trip home followed.

A brilliant start but the very tough fixture list continues this coming Saturday. Both teams at home.
