Billingham U15 welcome Houghton to Greenwood Rd
It was a wet blustery Sunday morning which seen the return fixture of the first game of the season in which Billingham came away easy winners at Houghton, but todays fixture was to prove a far tougher affair…..
Sunday’s game was marred with early handling errors but this was just testament to both teams determination to try and play fast flowing rugby!
It was Houghton who drew the first blood which was a well worked try from the base of the scrum and saw their winger dot down in the corner but the conversation attempt was unsuccessful 5-0 to Houghton.
Houghton then scored again quickly after the restart after they turned over the ball when a Billingham forward found himself isolated on the floor this allowed Houghton centre to beat Billingham scrambling defence with ease to score under the post. Successfully converted 7-0
It was then Billinghams turn to get themselves on the score sheet with a well worked moved from the back of the line out which allowed Thomas to cut through their defence like a hot knife through butter only to be stopped 5 metres short with a last gasp tackle by Houghton Full Back, The ball was then quickly moved along the line to Zinny whose great off load found Max out wide to dot down in the corner. Billingham forwards now start to get themselves s in the game with the usual bulldozing runs from Harley and James L and with great break down work from the rest of the forwards which started to gain Reece and the rest of the backs fast front foot ball this paid off early in the 2nd Half with Dylan pulling the strings another well executed backs move seeing James D scoring in the corner. Converted by Dylan 14-10
Billingham were now in the driving seat and started to turn the screw on Houghton the next try came on the back of a great tackle by Christian that dislodged the ball and scooped up by Joel passing the ball out wide to Jake who turned on the after burners and flew down the right wing drawing in the covering Full back and giving a nice inside pass to Dylan scoring under the post. Conversion missed 19-10
Houghton next to score from a scrum just inside their own half they broke down the right and with a clever switch in play saw them score under the post and easy conversion 19-17
The next try came as Houghton lost the ball in the centre of the pitch which was dropped on by Cameron the ball was quickly moved wide to Thomas who dived into the corner to score. Conversion missed 24-17.
Houghton almost straight from the restart after Billigham coughed upped possession just outside the 22 Houghton No 9 picked up the loose ball and jinked his way into score. Conversion missed 24-22.
After the restart Houghton spent the next 10 minutes camped in Billinghams half but couldn’t find their way through Billinghams defence, The ball was eventually spilt forward in the tackle it was scooped up by Harvey and carried to the half way line the ball then found its way to Zinny who Zig-zagged his way through Houghtons scrambling defence to score in the corner converted by Dyaln final score 31-22
