Christmas time, rugby and tries
3tm playing like they are on fire
Saturday morning and 1st thought, were the pitches frozen? Thankfully the answer was no, one of the greatest assets of the AGP meaning that through the bad weather the grass pitches are not getting cut up through training so with the lesser use, when it comes to game day they are in great condition.
The same can't be said for all teams and Stockton 2nds were without a game so the expectation was of a team much like that we faced in the county cup.
To their credit however the opposition turned up with their genuine 3rds ready to take on the might of the unbeaten 3tm.
It was only a few minutes in andvthe scene for the day was set. A long Billingham kick forced a Stockton scrum on their own 5, turned over and quick to Ched at 10 followed by a long pass to the outside where Sam Nasir rounded the last defender for the 1st score. And that was how the game was to go. The forwards were dominating up front. Great ball for the backs who finished the job. Throughout the half there was a steady stream of scores taking it to 44 nil at half time.
Into the 2nd half and it was a much more even affair with Stockton scoring 12 points against the Billingham 19 a credit to the battling attitude they had throughout. The highlight of the game being James Watson ripping the ball inside our own 5 and setting off on a 90 metre jog, the 1st defender meeting him on the 22 was bumped to ground as was the 2nd on the 5 however watsons legs were gone, so rather than going for the line decided to fallvover the tackler he had just bumped. Thoughts go with Phil Donaldson who ended the game with a trip to A&E and potentisl lost teeth, you will be missed for the next few weeks.
For now we remain unbeaten with only 1 game left before the halfway point, Wensleydale at home next week followed by a Christmas party and a couple of weeks deserved rest.
