‘The Comeback’

14 minutes of madness.

Unfortunately the lions and 3TM had cancelled games. Possibly victims of their recent successes, the set back led to a big crowd with watching players proving a big role in the home straight.

For 60 minutes Sandal were the aggressors, with very very quick line speed in defence, occasionally penalised but really put pressure on our attack. Capitalised on our mistakes with 2 interceptions and a simple pick up after an ambitious run from our try line led to a knock on. Unfortunately this sometimes happens with our style of play.

Despite this, we only trailed 14-17 (Dixon and Spoors) at half time, the start of the 2nd half was probably our poorest 20minutes of the season. Falling behind 32-14, the final 20 minutes were fast, aggressive and ambitious.

Sandal were now on wrong side of the law with 22 2nd half penalties and 2 yellow cards. Dan Burns was the first score at 71mins followed by Luke Wilson at 80mins both converted by Peter Evans. Injury time followed and we continued to press, a now standard Ben Walton break brought us to the Sandal 22m, Peter crossfield kick found Hopley who found the days hero Luke Shaw who dived over, looking quick for a prop out wide!

Still time for the kick off, Dixon collected and off the pitch - game over. Relief.

Credit to Sandal, who played their part in a classic. Much improved from last year and will be a force this year.

We need to improve before entertaining Ilkley this coming weekend.

Billingham Unbeaten and top of the league.
