El Capitain

This evening I have caught up with Josh Armstrong.
Captain of Lions he has helped transition of the development squad into the position they are today.
A player who oozes confidence and has a massive boot which has won games on its own!!

1. How old were you when you started playing rugby?
5 years old

2. What was your first rugby memory?
Watching big mark (dad) play every Saturday, well when I wasn’t kicking a ball around myself on the sideline with Jordan Potts and Jack Bromley

3. Who was your role model and why?
Jonny Wilkinson of course. Isn’t the reason obvious.. English hero and consummate professional throughout his career and beyond and he’s not to bad on the eyes

4. Can you remember your first training session with Billingham?
Huddling in the metal crates with all my childhood mates to keep warm before playing touch/tag on a freezing Sunday morning! It seems so long ago because even Josh Wilson had hair then.. so it could also be a nightmare

5. What do you eat before a big match?
Scrambled eggs on toast in the morning, then a couple of bananas when I’m heading out for the meet time. Couple of coffees to help with the morning dumps so I’m as light as possible and lots of water to keep hydrated

6. Describe your perfect weekend.
Friday night relaxing at home with the fam or my girlfriend with plenty of cake of course. Saturday up nice and early try and work off the pre match nerves. Pull out a big 4 try bonus point performance with the bois, beers and shower bonding then upstairs to turn the club loose. Sunday have the hottest bath possible to sweat out the Saturday night regret and relax the aching muscles and then it’s sky super Sunday followed by nfl red zone. The dream

7. What’s been your career highlight?
Other than making friends for life and playing rugby with the best bunch of lads possible week in week out for the last 21 years has to be playing on the hallowed turf that is Twickenham when I was younger! (I even took some grass home with me)

8. What one tip would you give a young person looking to succeed
Don’t be lazy. Put the work in and you’ll see the results and jump in... Don’t hold back, this is the best club in the world on and off the field and if you commit to the club you’ll be better off for it as a rugby player and a young person

9.What’s the next goal in your rugby career?
Not to tear another ACL! Seriously, play as long as I can at the best level I can because when it’s gone it’s gone so I’m going to make the most of it

Great to see you back Josh and long may you stay fit and well.
