Mike Brown

Don't judge a book a book by its cover.

This evening I caught up with dynamic prop Joe Spoors. To look at him you may think Mr Average. Don't be fooled! He's quick, fit and aggressive with a big appetite to win.

He has age on his side following his return from university to Billingham.

1. How old were you when you started playing rugby?
I was 8 years old and had never heard of rugby. I think my perents just wanted me to lose some weight... Don't think its worked

2. What was your first rugby memory?
I remember the pre-game team talk we got every match from my first coach Clive "Lets go out there and play HARD, AGREESIVE AND FAIR

3. Who was your role model and why?
My role model growing up was Martin Johnson. Never did anything flashy he just worked hard for his team

4. Can you remember your first training session with Billingham?
Not with junior's but I remember my firat senior session. Its was was wet and miserable and full contact... just remember getting sat down all night

As far as I can remember on a game day I have always had a big bowl of Shreddies on the morning

6. Describe your perfect weekend.
A big away trip on the Saturday with the boys and then a big sesh at the club ending in Flares as all big nights do. Then Another win with the U16s on Sunday followed by a big family get together for a Sunday roast or Chinese

7. What’s been your career highlight?
Hands down my first senior game. It was a pre-season friendly against Mowden Park under the floodlights. After 10 years at the club playing for the 1st team felt like I'd made it to the big leagues

8. What one tip would you give a young person looking to succeed
I would say just put in the graft and then play with a smile. It's all about having fun in the end

9.What’s the next goal in your rugby career?
To win the next match

Keep up the good work!!
