Match report from Wednesday 28th October

Next up for Billingham was a mid-week visit from Bishop Auckland. The game was to be played with 10 a side and over 4 periods of 10 minutes.
The game started with a quick pace and Billingham pressed Bishop Auckland and spent much of the 1st quarter camped deep in Bishop’s half. Despite some good passages of play Billingham were unable to make the break through and Bishop managed to get to the end of the 1st quarter without the deadlock being broken.
Due to the great turn out by Billingham an almost new team was fielded for the 2nd quarter and the numbers were reduced to 8 to allow more free play. The game carried on in the same form and Billingham continued to press, however it was Bishop Auckland who scored the 1st try with a nice period of play that resulted in a try in the corner. Billingham continued to try and move the ball around despite difficult playing conditions. There was no further score and Billingham went into the half time one try down.
Again multiple changes for Billingham moving into the 3rd quarter. Billingham continued to hold the territory and played the game in the Bishop Auckland half of the pitch. Billingham got there reward when Captain Kate Byrnes crossed to level the score after a nice inter-change in midfield. Billingham continued to have the majority of the play but were unable to add to their score.
Bishop started the better of the two teams in the final quarter and after moving the ball well were able to create an overlap to score in the corner. Billingham regrouped and continued to press up the field. Billingham maintained the pressure and were camped out on the Bishop try line and were eventually able to break the strong Bishop defence with Jaz Bradley crossing to level the scores. There were no further scores and the game ended with a fair draw.
Despite the cold and wet conditions both teams continued to try and move the ball around to create openings. The game was played in a good spirit and both teams are developing well as they prepare for the contact league next season.
Next fixture for Billingham is against Darlington on 19th November 20:00 kick off.
