Billingham Colts triumph over Alnwick

Billingham Colts triumph over Alnwick

Mike Brown26 Jan 2019 - 18:12

Back to winning ways!!

Billingham welcomed their opponents Alnwick to Greenwood Road.

Billingham won their previous encounter earlier in the season but expected a rallying Alnwick to bring it to Billingham

However it was stand in fly half Harry Burnard that broke the deficit early on with a jinking 60 metre run and outrun his opponents to score.

Next up a great platform laid by the Billingham forwards led to sniping Sam Wilson dart over. A second conversion missed. 10-0

Big carrier Leon Turnbull created a hole to dart over the whitewash. Ben kicked conversion. 17-0

And it was Leon in again. A scrum on the 22 which saw Ryan pick up from the Base and tip it on to Leon to again burst through to score.

25 mins in and Billingham had another scrum in Alnwicks half. Quick thinking Sam Wilson darted down the blind side popped to speedster Luke Cooper who darted 22 metres to score. 29 nil.

The intensity then dropped, balls being passed unnecessarily and poor defence seen Alnwick score 3 on the bounce. 29-17

Just as it seemed Alnwick were getting back into it a busy Sam Wilson allowed a rampaging Tom Walker to pick up and score. 34-17

With Alnwick going uncontested in the scrums a tactical change saw both props removed and 2 back rows added. It was of those back rows with his first touch Callum Poppitt to pick from the Base to score. Phil Greenbank kicked the conversion. 41-17

Billingham started to pull away and saw changes made with Harry Chapple, Sam Waldock Louis Teasdale all introduced

Harry Burnard continued his fine form with a break finished with a Swan dive. 47-17

Next to score was skipper Sam Wilson who drove. Rampaged and finally got over the line
51-17

Last by no means least was a Phil 'messi' Greenbank crossfire kick which found Luke Cooper in full flight to seal the win. Phil got the extras.

Full time 58-17

A great victory and lots of compliments from the referee and supporters
